MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A body was spotted Saturday in the ditch near the Parkview and Trichell Apartments in South Monroe.

Police have not been able to positively identify the man yet, and crews are working to retrieve the body.

We are told it was found about 75 yards from the bridge on Richwood Road #2.

Although the body hasn't been identified, one family believes they know who it is. Jerry Jones, 37, was last seen Sunday in the Parkview neighborhood, less than a mile from his home on Stacy Drive. His mother, Gladys Jones, told KNOE Friday that she believed her son to be dead. His family and Monroe Police searched the apartment complex, and the surrounding fields and ditches over the last few days with no signs of Jones.

His family is at the scene now, waiting to find out if it is their loved one. Jones's girlfriend Teresa Wilson says although she still has hope she will find Jerry alive, part of her knows that the body discovered is him. She says hearing the official word will bring some closure to their family, but she anxiously waits at the scene.
