MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Louisiana Library Association named Ouachita Parish Public Library Director Robin Toms as its Outstanding Public Librarian of the Year. Toms was honored at the Louisiana Library Association Conference in Lafayette on March 26th.

As director of Ouachita Parish Public Library in Monroe, one of Toms' duties was serving as administrator to the Trail Blazer Consortium, which allows participating libraries and their patrons – many of which are from rural areas – access to eBooks, movies and audio files. This position is not a paid one.

She has also maintained a good working relationship with the parish Police Jury and reopened and revitalized the previously closed Anna Meyer Family Learning Center. Ouachita Parish Public Library was named one of America's Star Libraries by Library Journal, one of only two Louisiana libraries to receive such a designation in 2012 and the only one in the state to receive the highest five-star rating.

LLA Public Library Awards Chair Laura-Ellen Ayres said that the success of Ouachita Parish Public Library and its staff is due to Toms's support.

"Toms is open to change and new ideas, which encourages her library board and staff to be innovative in their approach to library services," Ayres said.
