La. abortion regulation bill clears committee

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A proposal to add new regulations for abortion providers in Louisiana has received the support in the house health care committee.

Monroe Democrat Katrina Jackson's bill would require doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

Abortion right supporters say that if the bill is passed into law, it would force the closure of three of Louisiana's five abortion clinics. The bill now heads to the floor for debate.
