Adams County Emergency Management chief stepping down

Posted: Updated:

NATCHEZ, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Adams County Emergency Management Agency Director Stan Owens is retiring as of June 30.

Owens made the announcement Saturday, 32 years to the day after he started working at the Natchez Fire Department in 1982. Saturday also marked six years to the day after Owens took over as emergency management director for Adams County.

Owens says he'll remain a volunteer on the Adams County Search and Rescue team.

Adams County Board of Supervisors President Darryl Grennell says the county plans to hire Owens' replacement before Owens leaves.

Grennell says Owens has kept the weather sirens program for the county going.

Owens also implemented the CodeRED notification system that calls residents signed up for the free service when severe weather is approaching.
