Giving back for St. Patrick’s Day

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A lot of people are wearing green for St. Patrick's Day but one Monroe business owner is giving some of his green away. The owner of Enoch's Pub has held a special St. Patrick's Day celebration for 35 years. Our Nolan Crane shows us why despite the drinking it's really a religious holiday and a time to give.

The owner of Enoch's Pub in Monroe Doyle Jeter is in the kitchen preparing an Irish feast for his favorite holiday.

"It's not just about drinking and raising a little cane as it were. There will be plenty of things to do for everybody, lots of good food," said Doyle Jeter.

If you want a seat inside you have to be at least 18 years old because of the drink selection. Live performers will take the stage. A lot of the money earned Monday will be donated to the St. Vincent De Paul Pharmacy.

"About 15 years ago we decided that we wanted to do more than just have a drunken brawl as it were for St. Pat's Day and do what it's really meant to be represented. The goodness and the faith of Christianity and St. Patrick and we decided we wanted to raise money for charity," said Jeter.

"St. Vincent De Paul Pharmacy has been open for 15 years and in April we will have given out $15 million in prescription medication at a cost to no one," said Joann Crone.

The shamrock might be the symbol of St. Patrick's Day but no leprechauns are needed to bless people's lives. People at this bar will be showing their hearts as they add to the $40,000 they have already given to a local organization that helps people in need.

"We're the luckiest organization in the world because this is a wonderful community," said Crone.

Enoch's Pub opened up at 3 PM this afternoon. There is a raffle taking place where you can win autographed Duck Dynasty posters, t-shirts and other items. All of the money made from the raffle will go to the St. Vincent De Paul Pharmacy in Monroe.
