MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A man left at a Monroe home with a 6-year-old, took drugs then went strolling down the road in the Garden District.

Police say Matthew Messina was left at a family member's home on Bres Avenue, along with a 6-year-old. According to police, Messina took drugs, then took a walk with the child. He left the boy next door to the home, in front of Super Lube on Bres Avenue, and continued down the road.

Police say Messina was high and didn't know where he was. He began knocking on people's doors, and at one point put his jacket on a car hood. That car happened to belong to one of KNOE's very own, who took pictures as officers discovered drugs and a syringe inside the jacket.

Messina is charged with Child Endangerment, along with Possession of Schedule II and III Controlled Dangerous Substances.
