MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office has received information that some citizens have received telephone calls from persons representing themselves as OPSO deputies.

This scam involves the caller advising the victim that they owe either an unpaid traffic ticket or a fine for a bad check.

The caller advises the victim that a warrant will be issued for their arrest if they don't pay a mediator in Washington DC.

Caller ID indicates that the call is from OPSO and displays the number 318-329-1200.

Please be aware that this is NOT OPSO personnel.

If you receive this type of call, OPSO request that you attempt to obtain the caller's name and identifying information. Tell the caller that you are going to call them back at 318-329-1200. Please then call OPSO at 318-329-1200 and report the call.
