Morehouse Parish parents speak out against closures

Posted: Updated:

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La (KNOE 8 News)- The principals of Cherry Ridge and H.V. Adams spoke passionately Tuesday night against the superintendent's plans to close their schools.

Superintendent George Noflin is trying to fix a 3.4 million dollar deficit but today parents whose children attend these Bastrop area elementary schools say it should not come at their expense.

"All of their activities that they have put into this school will be gone because they plan on transferring them out," Jeremiah Johnson said.

If the school board approves the closures it will free up 2 point 1 million dollars but parents want the board to think long and hard before they make that decision.

"Come up with some solutions I guarantee we can keep these schools open," Angela Adams said.

Superintendent Noflin's plan also calls for cutting 18 administrative and faculty positions.
