UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Union Parish man has been booked into the parish detention center accused of killing one of his neighbor's dogs.

46-year-old Tracy Cook, of Junction City, was booked for cruelty to animals. His bond was set at $1,500.

Cook was arrested Tuesday on a warrant that stated he shot a dog owned by his neighbor. The victim in the case reported the dog had been shot in the right side and that a pellet was found underneath it.

Sheriff Dusty Gates says Cook told deputies he shot toward several dogs that were fighting in an attempt to break up the fight. Cook says it was an accident.

The dog was a mixed breed female and was found in the victim's back yard. The incident happened March 6th while the dog's owner was away from home.
