Deficit reduction plan unveiled at Morehouse School Board meeting

Posted: Updated:

BASTROP, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A deficit reduction plan released by the Morehouse Parish Schools superintendent calls for closing two schools and eliminating 18 school district positions.

The plan unveiled at Tuesday night's meeting is part of a proposal for closing a $3.8 million dollar budget shortfall.

The schools proposed to go on the chopping block are Cherry Ridge and H.V. Adams Elementary Schools.  Principals at both schools are clearly concerned and upset.  They tell KNOE 8 News they only heard the proposal for the first time at Tuesday night's meeting.

Public comment on the proposal will be heard at Bastrop High School on Tuesday, March 18.  The board is expected to take a vote at its next meeting on March 25.
