MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - At a special ribbon cutting Tuesday morning, the City of Monroe unveiled the new Tower-Armand connector expansion.

The $7.9 million road widening project extends from Armand Drive & Lamy Lane to Armand Drive & Ferrand Drive.

The new street surface is five lanes with a turning lane in the middle.

Monroe's Mayor Jamie Mayo and other city officials were at the ribbon cutting ceremony to show off the new road way.

Mayo said, "Citizens will be able to leave U.S. 165 and go to midtown on a five lane highway most of the way. It should be a help in a tremendous way. We are very excited about it."

The completed project will allow traffic from U.S. 165 north and south bound to travel west to North 18th street in about half the time it takes to travel along Louisville Avenue.
