MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Mayor Jamie Mayo held his weekly press briefing and he made it very clear that he's in support of the renovations to the city owned building that is occupied by Gardner Denver Thomas.

He says it should be funded by the I-20 Economic Development District.

Mayo explained how the city could end up in a deficit if the project is funded with the city's general fund.

Mayo also expressed the importance of the i-20 board having to spend as much of the state given money on projects like this before 20-25.

"We are not looking for ways to save funding we are looking for projects to do projects infrastructure improvements. so we can not get to the very end and have to send the money back," Mayo said.

The mayor also spoke on the proposed new arena and how the community is accepting the thought of a new attraction coming to the city.

Mayo has met with 2 council members who share different feelings about the new facility, but he says they are open minded depending on what the people they represent think.
