Legislators to vote on how cell phones should be used while driving

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Holding the phone while driving may become illegal, this week in baton rouge legislators will begin session.

One of the bills to be discussed would prohibit drivers from using hand held mobile devices while driving.

Which means many drivers will have to invest in hands free accessories... leaving most people with mixed emotions.

State representative Mike Huval of Breaux Bridge is the author of the proposed bill.
Huval thinks taking phones out of driver's hands will eliminate one distraction, but many are left wondering about other distractions.

It's illegal to text and drive in Louisiana.

According to the center of disease control, more than 3-hundred-thousand accidents occur from distracted driving.

Some people don't think the hands-free push will last.

The bill would apply to all Class "E" drivers.
