Search continues for Malaysian jetliner

Posted: Updated:

BEIJING/MILAN (AP) - A Malaysia Airlines official says there is still no indication of what happened to one of its jetliners that disappeared from radar while flying from Malaysia to Beijing.

At a news conference in Beijing, the CEO of Malaysia Airlines subsidiary Firefly airlines says the Boeing 777 was inspected 10 days ago and was "in proper condition."

Vietnamese air force planes searching for the aircraft have spotted two large oil slicks off the southern tip of Vietnam.

Foreign ministry officials in Rome and Vienna say the names of two nationals listed on the manifest of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight match passports reported stolen in Thailand.

Neither European was on the plane, which disappeared less than an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing. The Italian was traveling in Thailand and the Austrian was located in his native country.
