The late Coach Shows' wife remembers her husband

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Those all around the Ark-La-Miss and throughout the state remember Don Shows as a man who knew how to win football games. And even though football was very much a part of his professional and private life, there was more to Don Shows than the grid iron.

Daune Shows said football was a part of her husband and there is no separating the two, but he had other interests and talents.

"What they probably don't know, he was invited to go on a pro-bowling tour. He could have been a pro-bowler, but I said that is not a family life," Daune said.

Daune also said Coach Shows was a very good dancer. At one time a very young Mr. and Mrs. Shows even won a dance competition. She said he was very funny and they, their four kids and grand kids, had a life full of laughter

On Friday, the community will gather to celebrate Coach Shows' life instead of mourning at a traditional funeral.

And Daune shared many stories about her life with the coach, and she said she has no regrets, as she looks back at their life together on and off the football field.

The celebration of Don Shows' life starts at seven tomorrow evening at rebel stadium.

Organizers are asking anyone who goes to not wear black. Instead, they'd like to you dress in blue, red or rebel gear.
