Update: Medical condition suspected in Louisville Ave. fatal

FRIDAY UPDATE: Monroe Police suspect a medical condition led to the fatal accident that happened Thursday on Louisville Avenue. The victim has been identified as William Olyphant. His wife is in serious condition at a Shreveport hospital.

UPDATE: Monroe Police tell KNOE the elderly driver involved in this accident has died from his injuries. His wife remains in critical condition.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Crews are on the scene of an accident on Louisville Avenue in Monroe. The accident is at Third and Louisville. Both directions are closed as of 3:00 P.M. Thursday.

Police tell us two people were inside a car that struck a utility pole. There are live wires that trapped the two inside the car. One person has been removed from the vehicle and is being taken to the hospital. Police say that person is in critical condition.

Police are in the process of rescuing the second victim, who is also said to be in critical condition. Motorists are asked to find alternate routes and avoid the area.

A witness tells KNOE 8 News, the car was headed east on Louisville, driving at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk just before hitting the utility pole.

DOTD and Entergy are at the scene. That portion of Louisville is expected to reopen prior to evening rush hour traffic.
