VICKSBURG, Miss. (KNOE 8 News) - Dan Carney, lead electrician with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, operations and maintenance branch, recently returned from a 13-month deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan.

This was his third tour in four years in support of Overseas Contingency Operations/Operation Enduring Freedom.

Most recently, Carney was stationed at Camp Phoenix where he was assigned to the Kabul Area Office as the lead contracting officer representative (COR)/facility manager. Carney was awarded the NATO Medal, the Commander's Award for Civilian Service Medal, and the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism.

"I am proud to have been able to assist our men and women of our military during Operation Enduring Freedom. I am also proud that I never lost sight of my primary mission of being a good steward of American taxpayers' money," stated Carney.

Carney is a native of Alexandria, Louisiana, and is married to the former Tina Bordelon of Alexandria.

Army by deploying members of its civilian workforce who volunteer to support the Army's mission worldwide.  This civilian workforce provides a unique expertise to the fighting forces, including a reach-back capability that taps the expertise of the Corps of Engineers as a whole. The Corps continues to play a key role in defense operations and responds to natural disasters, both at home and abroad.
