Update: Teen victim arrested in Peach Street shooting

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News Update) - Monroe Police have arrested the 16-year-old victim who suffered a gunshot wound on Peach Street on Tuesday.

An investigation shows the teen was in possession of a handgun while at Carver Elementary and shot himself accidentally.

The 16-year-old was arrested for illegal use of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The teen has been released to his parent as he recovers from his injuries.

The gun has not been located and the teen has not told police the reason why he had the gun. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe Police are investigating a shooting near Carver Elementary School that left a 16-year-old boy wounded.

It happened just after 7 P.M., on Peach Street, in South Monroe.

Police say the teen was shot in the leg.  He went to a nearby apartment complex to seek help.  He was transported to a local hospital.

So far, no arrests have been made.
