Homeland Security urges people to download emergency app

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Ouachita Parish Homeland Security wants to reintroduce the parish to Alert FM.

It's the system that alerts the entire parish of an emergency.

The alerts will come to you any where, that's if you have one an Alert FM receiver in your home or office.

Director of Ouachita Homeland Security, Neal Brown supports the new technology.

"The basic app is free at Alert FM just go to your app store and download it," Brown said.
The app does have an upgraded version that you can buy, the upgrade comes with a weather radio and it allows you to get alerts from more than one parish.
Alerts in Ouachita Parish will come from the Emergency Operation Center.

According to Brown the messages from the alert system can range from anything dealing with safety.
Homeland Security plans to send test messages to all receivers and mobile devices with the app on April 1.
