Northeast Louisiana career fair

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Chamber of Commerce held its sixth annual career fair at the Monroe Civic Center Wednesday afternoon. It's the largest job fair in Northeast Louisiana. Our Nolan Crane was there to see what employers had to offer job seekers.

Duntrey Phenix has been unemployed for two months and like hundreds of others he is ready to get back to work if the price is right.

"I recently worked at super one for a while but they were asking for too much for too little, so I dropped them for a while. Since then I've been trying to find a job but jobs are hard to find," said Phenix.

Job seekers wore their Sunday best in hopes of dressing to impress the employers who have a lot of openings.

"We need someone in every department at Clarion Inn. Things are going to change fast and I am just thrilled that so many people are out here with so many job skills. I think that I found one person who is perfect already," said Rachael Moen.

Some people are looking for an entry level job.

"Pretty much just an office job, anything in the office I'll do," said Rachel Hutto.

Employers have job openings for people in Northeast Louisiana of every skill set.

"There is everything from industries in manufacturing to retail to medical to service industries, so it is a great place to come and meet with a lot of different employers all at one time and in one location," said Sue Nicholson.

Duntrey Phenix applied for lot of jobs, but he says it just takes one call back to make standing in line worth his time.

"Today I'm just hoping that someone can give me a new beginning. I hope I can get one of these jobs, I'd be very thankful," said Phenix.

Employers who set up booths were pleased with the turnout of qualified applicants in attendance. Even though no one was hired Wednesday, all 49 companies have a stack full of resumes to sift through.
