MINDEN, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The attorney representing two former Cotton Valley firefighters charged with criminal offenses related to their management of the department no longer will defend one of the men.

Attorney Marty Stroud said Monday he will not provide defense for former Assistant Chief Adam Hurley. He withdrew Friday, citing a conflict that arose during ongoing discussions about the pending charges against Hurley and former Fire Chief Dennis Meshell.

Meshell and Hurley were arrested in March 2012 and charged with two counts each of malfeasance, unauthorized use of an access card as theft and injuring public records. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Even though Hurley has to hire a new attorney, he and Meshell are scheduled for a statue conference on March 17. A May 12 trial date is set.
