LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- This was the first day on the job for 14 people, they began training to become agents for Avercom Virtual Solutions of Lake Providence.

It's a telecommunications company that handles customer service, tech support, and live chats for a host of companies.

Lake Providence resident and new employee Linda Hawkins says she is up for the challenge.

"I like learning. this is going to be a very good learning experience for me... Never done call center or never done anything like that," Hawkins said.

Avercom is the dream of company founder Nielle Bush. She saw a documentary on the town's hardships and wanted to do something to help. She says that help is in the form of good jobs for qualified residents.

" As somebody that is born and raised in Louisiana made me feel that I should do something about it, if I was in the position to do something about it," Bush said.

The company plans to create 300 jobs and is scheduled to recruit from Delta Community College's Lake Providence campus. For now Linda Hawkins and the 13 other trainees are just glad to be the first to land some of those new jobs.
