CHOUDRANT, La. (KNOE 8 News) - First responders in the village of Choudrant are mixing fire with firearms for a super raffle.

The Choudrant Fire Department is holding a year-long raffle with each week's winner receiving a gun.

Tickets are a $100 each, but there are only 1,000 tickets available during each year.

There are a few tickets left for this year's raffle that began Sept. 1, 2013.

The second year's raffle tickets will go on sale March 1 and the raffle will begin in Sept. 1, 2014.

Mayor Bill Sanderson said the firearms total around $50,000, leaving Choudrant with the other $50,000 from the proceeds.

All the money will go towards needed equipment for the fire department.

"Our purchase we are working on at this time is a new pump, which will be about $350,000.So we have high aspirations and it will take us a few years to obtain it, but we are well on our way," Sanderson said.

To purchase a ticket, call the Village Hall at (318) 768-4111.
