Franklin Parish High School Students stopped during protest

Posted: Updated:

WINNSBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Some students at Franklin Parish High School planned to walk out, but say they were abruptly stopped.

A student, who asked to not be identified, told us he had been planning the walkout for about a month.

He said about 40 students gathered and planned to march in protest of the administration.

Eighteen-year- old senior Mary Watson gets out of school early and she was heading back to campus for the march. She said teachers and coaches were ushering students into the gym when she arrived.

Watson said she has reported bullying, but nothing has been done. She also said she was discriminated against because she was in an interracial relationship.

"I think we should all stand up for being treated wrong cause I've been treated wrong," Watson said. "And I think everyone should stand up for themselves every once in a while because it is time for a difference."

Franklin High School Administration acknowledged the incident, but both they and the superintendent's office refused comment.
