LAFAYETTE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A 60-year-old Lafayette woman pleaded guilty in federal court to defrauding more than a half million dollars from the company where she worked.

Bunnie Morris faces up to 30 years in prison after she entered a guilty plea Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said Morris was employed as a financial accountant/bookkeeper for Waste Auditors Inc. from 2001 to 2009. During that time, she says Morris forged signatures on numerous payroll, bonus and expense account corporate checks.

Finley says checks totaling over $579,000 were processed through two banks.

Morris will be sentenced June 11.
