CHOUDRANT, La. (KNOE 8 News)- As flags flew and banners were hung across the Choudrant Bridge the excitement behind welcoming home Platoon sergeant Henry Willrich grew amongst the residents there.

Before being deployed to Afghanistan with the Nevada National Guard 15 months ago, he relocated his family to Choudrant to be closer to family.

This will be his first time meeting most of these people, that have become his extended family.

Wellrich's return home was welcomed with a host of hugs and kisses from supporters that commend him for his service to America.

"That's a hard decision a hard thing he had to do in loading up with his troops and going over seas. Leaving behind his wife and 2 girls at home and we hurt for him for that," Mayor of Choudrant Bill Sanderson said.

Wellrich plans to be in church Sunday with his family.
