MANSFIELD, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A former Mansfield Elementary School bookkeeper who resigned earlier this month after allegedly admitting to pocketing school concession money was arrested Friday on a felony theft charge.

Mansfield police booked 40-year-old Laura G. Yarbrough in to the DeSoto Parish Detention Center also on a charge of issuing worthless checks. She was released on bond.

DeSoto Parish schools Superintendent Cade Brumley told The Times two weeks ago he confronted Yarbrough about missing funds following an internal investigation. Red flags were raised because of the lack of deposits from the school's concession sales.

Brumley says Yarbrough admitted taking the money - more than $1,750 - over an extended period of time.

Brumley reported the incident to Mansfield police, DeSoto District Attorney's office and Louisiana Legislative Auditor.
