GRETNA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - As Gretna prepares to charge motorists for parking downtown, the City Council on Wednesday will consider earmarking 25 percent of the revenue and fines for the area's infrastructure. The council also will take final action on amendments to its parking ordinance.

Mayor Belinda Constant told The Times-Picayune on Monday she expects to implement paid parking March 1, with motorists to receive courtesy violations notices that will double an education pamphlet on the program. Real citations will be handed out beginning April 1.

Initially scheduled to take effect Feb. 1, the program was pushed back due to delays in equipment and severe weather. Constant said the remaining payment kiosks are expected to arrive within 10 days.
