Mayor Mayo proposing a new downtown bus terminal

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Mayor Jamie Mayo wants a new Downtown bus terminal but it would be more than just a place to catch a city bus or perhaps the Greyhound.

It would be what he calls an intermodal facility.

It would mimic a facility on ULM's campus but would have parking spaces instead of a parking garage and include retail space.

Just one of the hurdles facing the project is who will be managing the city bus line come May 1st, because so far the city has not renewed a contract with First Transit.

First transit hopes to keep working with the city and believes a new facility will be a lot more comfortable for riders, especially during our current weather conditions.

City leaders say the ideal spot for the proposed new facility will be downtown and near interstate 20.
