Mobile home fire in Wisner ruled accidental

WISNER, La. (KNOE 8 News) A mobile home fire in Franklin Parish where a woman was found dead inside has been ruled accidental.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a residential fire in Wisner on Tom Kerrigan Road where the homeowner, 64 year old Shirley Pailette died.

When first arriving to the scene, firefighters observed a small amount of smoke venting from a bedroom window of the double-wide mobile home. The fire was limited to the mattress and bedding within a spare bedroom of the residence. That's where crews found Pailette's body and the remains of a small dog. State Fire Marshal investigators were called upon to investigate the circumstances of Pailette's death and the cause of the fire.

Investigators have ruled the fire accidental. They believe Pailette fell unconscious in the spare bedroom with a cigarette in her hand that started the fire by igniting bedding.

The body has been sent for autopsy and investigators will await the findings to determine the cause and manner of death. That autopsy is scheduled to be conducted in Little Rock, Arkansas early next week.
