LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The Arkansas Department of Health says eight people have died from the flu in the state in the past week.

As of Wednesday, 36 people have died from influenza in Arkansas this flu season. In the past week, there have been 90 flu-case hospital admissions.

State epidemiologist Dirk Haselow says the strain of virus continues to hit people ages 25-64 harder than past flu viruses. He says 27 of the state's 36 deaths have been in that age group.

Haselow says each flu season is a bit unpredictable, but on average they last about 12 weeks. He says there has been a slight decrease in cases recently but not enough to confirm that the season is winding down.
