NATCHITOCHES, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Authorities say two Natchitoches metal recycling business owners have been arrested after a joint investigation between the Natchitoches and DeSoto parish sheriff's offices into the theft of $200,000 in copper.

Several people were arrested for the copper thefts by DeSoto detectives, who learned that most of it had been taken and sold to a metal recycler in Natchitoches. The investigation found that sellers had gotten cash for more than 7,000 pounds of copper.

Investigator Greg Dunn says 66-year-old James Strickland Jr. was booked with one count of violation of the Louisiana Scrap Metal Recyclers law. He was released on bond.

On Monday, Natchitoches detectives arrested 36-year-old Joel Brandon Taylor for allegedly paying people cash for copper. He was released on a summons to appear in court.
