Farmers in Morehouse Parish partner with Southern University

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Farmers in Morehouse Parish took a break from their fields to celebrate a partnership with the Southern University AG Center.

A check for 49 thousand dollars was given to the Morehouse Black Farmers and Land Owners Association.

The cash will be used to educate young people about the importance of farming and plant vegetables on seven plots located at the facility.

The project will also help farmers reap more cash from their harvests, because they will provide their produce to local retailers.

"Everybody benefits because it's a pilot project because it's a pilot project you take what you learn from here as apart of the Southern University AG Center and we are able to share it with others," Gina Eubanks of the Southern University AG Center said.

With Spring around the corner the farmers say they are ready to get their veggies planted and hopefully in the process raise up a whole new generation of farmers to continue their tradition.
