RICHLAND, Miss. (AP) - Rankin County schools officials say a Richland teacher is no longer employed with the system after failing to get approval to show a movie to a high school class.

Rankin County School Board president Cecil McCrory said that Mary Porter violated policy by showing her 10th grade English class "Dolan's Cadillac." The R-rated movie is adapted from a short story by the horror author Stephen King.

Porter reportedly showed them the movie for an assignment in which they were to compare the movie to an Edgar Allen Poe story.

McCrory says Porter was required to get approval before showing the movie but did not.

Porter declined comment when contacted by the newspaper.

It was not immediately clear whether Porter was fired or resigned.
