Search for missing pilot, plane to resume Monday

Posted: Updated:

MENA, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Forestry Commission says the search for a missing commission pilot and airplane will resume Monday following a winter storm in the region.

Commission spokeswoman Adriane Barnes says efforts to find 34-year-old pilot Jake Harrell and the plane he was flying were hampered Sunday because of icy roads and the rugged terrain in western Arkansas.

Harrell was last heard from shortly after 1 p.m. Friday during a survey for wildfires. He had taken off from Oden and was bound for Wickes - about 50 miles to the southwest.

Barnes says searchers are looking in an area near Oden just north of the suspected flight path and is based on information from Harrell's cellphone provider on what is believed to be his last transmission.
