Father of robbery, home invasion suspect arrested

Posted: Updated:

FARMERVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Union Parish Sheriff's detectives have arrested the father of one of the two men charged with home invasion and armed robbery accusing him of being an accessory after the fact.

Boone Richardson "Richie" Brantley, 51, of 1418 Hwy. 143 Farmerville, was booked Thursday evening into the parish detention center with bond set at $29,500.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said Brantley was booked for being an accessory after the fact on four charges including home invasion, armed robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and false imprisonment.

His son, Brantley Jr., 21, and Kurt Christopher Wiley, 21, both of Farmerville, were arrested Monday and Tuesday in connection with a Jan. 12 armed robbery and home invasion in the Rocky Branch community.

Gates said the investigators suspect that Brantley Sr. became aware that his son might have been involved in the robbery of a 75-year-old Rocky Branch man and interfered with the investigation by giving false information. He also is accused of having another man give a false alibi for Brantley Jr., the sheriff said. He also destroyed some physical evidence, according to investigators.

Wiley and Brantley are in the parish detention center on bonds of $336,000 and $320,000, respectively.

They were booked for armed robbery with a gun, home invasion with a weapon, false imprisonment, unauthorized use of a movable and criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said Brantley was arrested Monday without incident and that Wiley was arrested Tuesday morning at the detention center where he was being held on previous charges including probation violation.

Gates said that good detective work revealed that the two suspects had planned the robbery the night of Jan. 11 and that Brantley had dropped Wiley off the victim's residence in Rocky Branch the next morning.

The sheriff said Wiley, who was masked, approached the victim outside his house and robbed him of cash in his pocket and then forced the 75-year-old man inside his house where other money was taken along with a small safe. The suspect tied and gagged the man before leaving in the victim's car.

The victim was able to untie himself and call UPSO. Deputies located the stolen car at the Point Bridge near Rocky Branch. Evidence at the scene showed that the suspect had gotten into another vehicle.

The next day after the robbery, Wiley turned surrendered himself on the previous charges at the detention center. Investigators said some of the money taken during the robbery was to be used by Wiley during his incarceration on the other charges pending against him. The other charges included no driver's license, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and disturbing the peace.

Gates said the .32-caliber pistol used in the robbery was found off Turkey Creek Road near Marion.
