OPSO: Pickup truck in Cheniere Lake

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) -We have new details on the young man who took his father's truck and drove it into Cheniere Lake.

After the man, John Derek Allen, age 27, of West Monroe swam out of the lake, Ouachita Deputies say he went to a neighboring house and asked to use the phone.  He entered the house, inhabited by a disabled woman, and tried to steal her car...at one point, attempting to smother her with a pillow.  

Unsucessful in the attempt at stealing the woman's car, deputies responded and he was arrested at the scene.  

The man tried to escape from the deputies on the way to OCC, where he eventually was taken.

Charges againt Allen include attempted second degree murder, destruction of stolen property, and attempted escape.

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies are at Cheniere Lake, where a pickup truck is in the water.

This is west of West Monroe, near Bawcomville, at Cheniere Lake Area One.

According to sheriff's officials at the scene, an unidentified young man took the truck from his father and purposely drove it into the water, where it sank.

The man is physically okay but faces at least one count of destruction of stolen property.
