Norris to seek 10th, final term

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris, the only mayor many of the city's residents have ever known, said he will run for a 10th - and final - term this spring.

If Norris wins and serves out his full term, he will have served 40 years as West Monroe's mayor.

Norris, who was a professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe when he first ran for the job, said he never dreamed public service would become a lifelong career.

Norris continued to teach part time at ULM and at Louisiana Tech University through the turn of the century, but retired from teaching in 2003.

Norris ran without opposition during his last election, and so far nobody has announced plans to challenge him this time.
