Healthcare insurance update

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The deadline to sign-up and receive healthcare coverage for this year is approaching fast. If you or anybody in your family does not have health insurance the deadline is March 31st to enroll.

So far it has been a challenge to get people who classify themselves as young and healthy to sign-up. Employees at Primary Healthcare Services Center in Monroe say there are a lot of young and healthy people over the age of 26 who are not signing-up. In order to change that, the company has hired several people in their 20's and 30's in hopes that they could encourage them to enroll.

"We will be working on the campus, we're thinking about going out to the mall, going to Walmart, Target, different places where we can just reach every demographic that we can," said Rashunda Broadnax.

In the state of Louisiana less than 50,000 people have signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Healthcare Act. If you do not have health insurance there will be a minimum $95 penalty.
