UPDATE: "Time Machine" wins $1 million prize

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Winnsboro native will have a piece of $1 million dollars after being apart of a Super Bowl winning team.

While Ben Boutwell did not play for the Seattle Seahawks, he did help create a Doritos commercial that was featured during the big game.  He served as a consultant on "The Time Machine," an ad a part of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest.

On Monday morning, ABC's Good Morning America announced that the commercial won the $1 million prize.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Winnsboro native is part of a Superbowl commercial that's made it into the Top 2 of Dorito's contest.

The Doritos Crash the Superbowl contest was narrowed down to 5 finalist, with "The Time Machine" now one of two featured as a Superbowl ad.

Ben Boutwell, who is originally from Winnsboro, had a hand at making the commercial along with several others.

If they win, the group wins $1 million dollars and the chance to work on the set of Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The big game coming this Sunday draws millions of viewers. Ben Boutwell, who is originally from Winnsboro, says his eyes will be watching the commercials. That's because he had a hand in making one of them.

Crispy, crunchy, cheesy, that's what Doritos are known for.

But for Winnsboro native Ben Boutwell, the crispy chip has given him the opportunity of a life time.

"I guess I always enjoyed magic. So being able to fool people in thinking something was real using visual effects on your computer always intrigued me. I always wanted to do something like that," says Boutwell.

Boutwell helped create "The Time Machine." A commercial that is featured in the finals of Doritos "Crash the Super Bowl" contest.

"I mean Doritos has been doing this for 4 years now I think, probably longer," Boutwell said. "Just about everyone who wins has done it on a really low budget."

The ad was shot and produced in Arizona, but Boutwell was used as a visual effects consultant for the piece. The commercial features a mischievous kid trying to grab his hand at a full bag of the crispy snack.

Boutwell said, "My buddy Ryan Anderson, who was the director, him and his son Gavin who plays the little boy, they were watching 'Back to the Future' and his son wanted a time machine. He was like 'Dad, can we make a time machine?' He was like 'Yeah, sure.' So he went and found a refrigerator cardboard box."

Voting for the contest ends on Wednesday. If "The Time Machine" wins, Boutwell will share in a whole lot of cheddar, $1 million dollars.

Over 5500 entries were submitted into the contest from over 30 countries. Two of the finalists will be featured in Sunday's big game. You can see the video and vote by visiting votetimemachine.com (may not open on mobile app).
