Putting a stop to vehicle burglaries

Posted: Updated:

MONROE,La. (KNOE 8 News)- Car burglaries are becoming all too common. Now police are making adjustment to try and stop this growing trend.

"We try to look at the trends and look at the patterns and adjust our personal according to that" says Major Jason Pleasant.

According to the West Monroe Police Department, there were 81 vehicle burglaries in 2013 and five so far in 2014.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriffs Office reports 90 in the past three months.

Major Jason Pleasant says this is a growing trend and for that reason, the department is making adjustments.

"Starting the first of February we will have two additional investigators to assist with specifically thefts and burglaries" says Pleasant.

"Now police say the easiest way to not become a victim is doing something as simple as locking your car" says Reporter Hilary Hunt.

"Its real important that we don't make ourselves a target whether it be a vehicle burglary or a resident burglary especially with vehicle burglaries locking our vehicles and taking things of value out of our vehicle" says Pleasant.

Pleasant says it is also important to report any types of suspicious activity.
