MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The Ouachita Parish School System has at least three sites under consideration for a new middle school if voters approve a bond issue on the May ballot.

Superintendent Bob Webber, construction supervisor Ken Slusher and architect Rice Gregory toured locations in eastern Ouachita Parish Friday to view property available for Swartz Middle School.

In its Feb. 13 board meeting, the board will consider whether to ask voters to approve extending an existing property tax by one year to generate up to $28 million through the sale of property bonds.

The new middle school would divide the student population of Ouachita Junior High School, which is one of the largest schools in northeastern Louisiana with more than 1,000 students.
