RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - On January 23, 2014, at approximately 1:13 AM, officers from the Uniform Patrol Division of the Ruston Police Department responded to the area of West California Avenue in front of Forest Lawn Cemetery for a reported pedestrian crash.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered that a white male had been walking westbound along the westbound lane of West California Avenue and for an unknown reason stepped into the path of a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Autumn Hamilton of Ruston.

The white male suffered severe injuries was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office.

The investigation is continuing into the crash, but no charges are expected at this time. Intoxication of the driver of the Pontiac Grand Am is not suspected, but routine toxicological tests are pending.

The victim in this pedestrian crash has been identified as Louisiana Tech University student Terrell Daniel Stafford, 32, of Ruston. The investigation has further revealed that at the time of the crash, Stafford was wearing dark colored clothing as he walked along the roadway.

The Ruston Police Department always encourages citizens to use the upmost caution when walking along the roadways, use sidewalks when available, and to wear clothing that can be easily seen by motorists.
