UPDATE: Olive Garden to rebuild

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - While the Olive Garden restaurant is planning on rebuilding, the location where they will be located is in question.

In Wednesday's press conference, representatives confirmed they were committed to its employees as well.

In a statement released by General Manager Bryan Gibbs through Darden Restaurants, he said:  

"First and foremost, we are extremely thankful no one was injured in the fire and we are grateful for the efforts of all the first responders involved. Olive Garden remains committed to the Monroe community and we plan to rebuild this restaurant. We'll begin work as quickly as possible, with the goal of re-opening before the end of the year. Right now, the well-being of our team members is our number one priority. With help from other Darden restaurants in Monroe, we are offering job placement support to all of the employees who were affected. Lastly, when we do re-open, our current Olive Garden team members will be welcomed back."

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - KNOE 8 News has learned that the Olive Garden restaurant in Monroe is planning to rebuild.

The announcement was made on Wednesday at a joint press conference with restaurant officials and the Monroe Fire Department.

Officials for the restaurant say that they hope to have the restaurant open before the holiday season (Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years).

The restaurant also said they are working to place their employees in other restaurants owned by the company.

MONROE, La. (KNOe 8 News) - More information will be released Wednesday afternoon regarding the fire that destroyed Monroe's Olive Garden Monday morning. The fire chief and restaurant representatives will hold a news conference at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday.

Tuesday morning fire officials told us more about the initial reports of the fire that came in at about 11:30 A.M.

The Monroe Fire Department originally received a call about the a trash bin fire in the back of the Olive Garden restaurant.

Upon arrival, crews extinguished the fire, checked the premises and eventually left.

Six minutes later, crews received a call that the restaurant's roof was on fire.

According to Monroe Fire Chief Terry Williams, the electrical panel was the cause of the fire.

However crews had to wait until Entergy arrived to shut off the electricity, before attempting to extinguish the fire.

The sprinkler system did go off in the building, but the fire was above it in the roof; which eventually collapsed.

Meanwhile there's some good news for those with Olive Garden gift cards. The parent company also owns the Red Lobster and Longhorn restaurant locations. Cards can be used at those locations and at Olive Gardens in other cities.
