RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Third Judicial District Attorney Bob Levy, since 1991, has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014.

"By the end of this term, I will have served as District Attorney for 24 years," Levy said.  "While I love this job, I think it is time for someone else to have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of being the chief law enforcement official of this district.  I will continue to be fully engaged as District Attorney until the final day of my term in 2014.  I am making this announcement today to allow those interested in seeking the position ample time to prepare."

In addition to his service as D.A., Levy is a member and past chair of the Louisiana Board of Regents, which coordinates the efforts of the state's 34 public universities, community and technical colleges and professional schools.  Appointed to three consecutive terms by the last three governors, Levy is the longest serving Regent.  He was recently reappointed to a new six year term and confirmed by the Louisiana State Senate in May.  Levy said he looks forward to continuing his service to the state in this capacity.

Levy thanked all those who have made his tenure as D.A. possible and successful.  "No one serves as District Attorney for 24 years without having a dedicated and talented staff, committed family, loyal friends and a supportive community who care about fair but firm administration of criminal justice.  I have been truly blessed by having all of those."

Levy was recently in the news as he asked parish police juries in the Third Judicial District to increase funding for his office.
