JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Entergy Mississippi has announced customers will see a rate increase of about 4 percent in early 2014, mainly due to rising natural gas costs and an under-recovery of fuel costs in 2013.

Fuel costs are passed through to the customer dollar-for-dollar with no profit to the company.

With the increase, Entergy officials say in a news release that the typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatts will pay $108.08 beginning in February. That's about $4.21 more than the typical customer paid for the same amount of electricity in 2013.

The company says natural gas costs rose about 12.5 percent in 2013 and rose some 33 percent in 2012.

Entergy Mississippi serves 437,000 customers in 45 counties in Mississippi's western half.
