Post of Chef Cory Bahr's burglary goes viral

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A local chef's Facebook post about the burglary of his vehicle last month has gone viral on social media.

Chef Cory Bahr of Restaurant Cotton posted his story about having his belongings stolen out of his vehicle in December and his dealings with the Monroe Police Department.

"Three weeks ago I had thousands of dollars of knives, a Macbook pro and several other item stolen from my vehicle. I called the Monroe PD to file a report, the officer they sent talked to me like I did something wrong..." Bahr writes.

He then used his iPhone app to track his stolen MacBook.

"I then call MPD to give them a map, address and GPS coordinates for the location of my stolen goods. Acting excited the cops filed a supplemental report and are going to "get right on it". I couldn't resist driving by the location."

Bahr says he drove by the location and saw a man wearing his stolen jacket, and another person with his Macbook charger.

"I call the officers and inform them that I see my stolen goods on this young man. 'We will handle it' I was told. I call the next day only to find out nothing happened, my report was lost," says Bahr, "I gave the police everything they needed to arrest a criminal and NOTHING!

Bahr writes that he spoke to the mayor's office, and a detective was sent to the home. There, Bahr says a resident said her son just got out of jail.

"She said YES he had my computer, jacket and other items the previous day but hasn't seen him today. Basically leading the MPD to the location of thousands of dollars of stolen goods is not enough to get them interested. How frustrating, it's getting out if control & where is the concern to clean up our city... time for a change."

Monroe Police will be issuing a full statement Monday, January 6, 2014. For now, they say a suspect in the case has been identified. Charges are pending for the burglary, and the investigation is on going to recover the property.
