OPPJ to vote on a possible pedestrian overpass in Richwood

RICHWOOD, La (KNOE 8 News)- The Ouachita Parish Police Jury will start the year off voting on a pedestrian overpass in Richwood.

Juror Olliebeth Reddix will present a resolution requesting a new pedestrian crosswalk in Richwood, so residents and students of the local schools can cross Highway 165 safely.

President of OPPJ Shane Smiley, believes the overpass will add to pedestrian safety in that area.

"Highway 165 has an incredible amount of traffic in that area, there are a number of red lights in that area and people don't always stop. You know a yellow light to a lot of people means they need to get through that," Smiley said.

A request for the walkway across the four lane highway must be sent to the State Department of Transportation.
