Goldonna Police Chief arrested in Natchitoches Parish

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Detectives along with the assistance of the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney's Office have arrested Goldonna Police Chief Johnny Earl Rowell in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr. says, Johnny Earl Rowell, 63,  of the 200 block of Goldonna Road, Goldonna, La., was arrested Friday morning by Detectives at approximately 9:50am. 

Rowell, was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with 1-count of Malfeasance in Office, and 1-count of Accessory after the Fact.

Chief of Investigations Detective Greg Dunn, said the arrest is the result of a ongoing criminal probe and investigation involving a relative of Chief Johnny Rowell.

During the investigation, detectives interviewed witnesses and obtained statements that resulted in sufficient probable cause to obtain criminal arrest warrants. 

Detectives say no further details are being released at this time. Sheriff Jones, has contacted the Goldonna Mayor's Office of the arrest.

Goldonna is a village in North Natchitoches Parish with a population of approximately 430 and covers an area of approximately 11 square miles. Malfeasance in Office is committed when any public officer or public employee intentionally refuses or fails to perform any duty lawfully required of him, as such officer or employee.

Accessories after the fact is any person who, after the commission of a felony, shall harbor, conceal, or aid the offender, knowing or having reasonable ground to believe that he has committed a felony and with the intent that he may avoid or escape from arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment.
