GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Grambling State University is getting a $50,000 financial shot in the arm for student scholarships.

The money comes through Allstate and the Tom Joyner foundation which raised $185,000 dollars this year for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). As part of that campaign, a separate $50,000 dollars was given to Grambling after students, alumni and supporters voted GSU as their favorite HBCU.

From August 1 through November 30, 2013, Allstate donated $10. for every person who received an insurance quote and mentioned "Quotes for Education." The $185,000. dollars raised will be earmarked for general scholarship funds to assist students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Grambling will use the $50,000 to fund scholarships at GSU after winning the "favorite" award. last year's favorite winner, Lincoln University in Missouri, distributed scholarship funds to 25 students with the cash.
